A Rich History
The enchanting hamlet has a rich history of over 300 years ago when Native Americans first settled it. The first Europeans arrived here around 1640 from England and Ireland, and then came more settlers from Scotland, Wales, Germany and Italy during the 19th century.
The hamlet is a destination for those looking for something unique and different from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is a perfect place to unwind and relax and enjoy some of the best seafood around. Many restaurants feature fresh seafood dishes, including clam chowder and lobster rolls.
Recreational Facilities and Entertainment
The town is filled with charming shops, restaurants and art galleries that will make visitors feel like they’ve stepped back in time. The historic village seduces visitors with the promise of waterfront views and majestic beaches.
Several trails lead to scenic lookouts overlooking the ocean for those who enjoy hiking or biking. In addition, there is also an abundance of outdoor activities available such as golfing at the nearby Shinnecock Hills Golf Club or fishing off one of many docks located throughout town.

Mastic Beach History & Culture
After a vote on August 31, 2010, incorporation was approved. The proposed incorporation needed to be passed by a majority in order for the hamlet to become a village. The first elected mayor was Paul Breschard.
The boundaries of the village of Mastic Beach differed from those of the previous census-designated place (CDP). The village did not include the William Floyd House grounds as well as a few blocks in the extreme southwest of the CDP, but it added several blocks west of Mastic Road and Commack Road.
