Horizontal Beam Reinforcement – Brooklyn, NY
Horizontal Beam Structural Reinforcement – Brooklyn, NY – Zavza Seal LLC Measuring Depth of Blown-in Insulation

Client Concern

251 47th LLC, based in Brooklyn, NY, contacted Zavza Seal LLC to address concerns about a horizontal beam that required immediate structural reinforcement during work being performed on the wall directly beneath it. Due to the critical nature of the beam and its load-bearing function, the solution had to ensure long-term stability and precise installation.

Evaluation & Repair Strategy

After assessing the conditions on-site, our structural team proposed a custom-fabricated steel solution to support the beam vertically from the slab. The plan was engineered for maximum strength using heavy-duty steel components, professional welding, and high-tensile anchoring techniques.

Scope of Structural Reinforcement Work

The following work was completed at 251 47th Street, Brooklyn, NY:

  • Steel Plate Anchoring:
A 2 ft x 1 ft heavy-duty steel plate was anchored to the concrete slab with industrial-grade steel anchors to form a secure base for the vertical support system.
  • C-Channel Installation:
     A custom C-channel, measuring 196 ¾” L x 10” W x 2.5” D x 3/8” thick, was vertically mounted from the steel plate to the horizontal beam.
  • Welding & Anchoring Process:
  • The C-channel was welded to the steel base plate for rigid alignment.
  • Holes were drilled into the adjacent wall, which were then filled with high-strength structural epoxy.
  • Using the epoxy-filled cavities, the channel was secured with staggered 5/8” threaded steel anchors every 3 feet along the wall.
  • The top of the channel was welded directly to the horizontal beam, completing the load transfer system.

This approach combined tensile strength with precise anchoring to minimize lateral movement and potential beam stress in the future.
