Client Concern:
A homeowner in Elmont, NY reached out to Zavza Seal after noticing persistent water intrusion along the floor slab of their basement room. The issue had begun to damage the sheetrock, create moisture buildup, and raise concerns about long-term structural impact. The client wanted a permanent waterproofing solution that would stop the water at its source and prevent recurring damage.
Challenges:
During inspection, our team identified several key issues:
- Water was entering through the joint where the slab meets the foundation wall.
- The sheetrock along the lower section of the wall had absorbed moisture.
- Structural studs were obstructing access to the foundation, making precision repairs more difficult.
- The client needed a clean, long-lasting solution that would not disrupt the rest of the basement.
The goal was to fix the underlying water problem and restore the wall with durable waterproofing.
Our Solution:
To address the water intrusion effectively, Zavza Seal followed a structured, step-by-step approach:
1. Controlled Demolition for Access
We removed the sheetrock wall section 24 inches above the floor along the full 13 linear feet of the affected area.
The studs were carefully cut and removed to expose the foundation joint. This allowed us to reach the exact source of the water intrusion.
2. Precision Waterproofing at the Slab and Wall Joint
Once the foundation was accessible, we prepared the area for waterproofing by grinding:
- The concrete floor slab horizontally at the wall joint
- The vertical section of the wall where the slab meets the foundation
This prep work ensured strong adhesion for the waterproofing layer.
We then installed mesh reinforced waterproof cement along the entire length of the wall. This method seals the vulnerable joint, strengthens the area, and blocks water penetration at its point of entry.
3. Restore the Wall Structure
After the waterproofing cured:
- We replaced the studs
- Installed a new drywall section
- Taped and compounded the repaired area
Note: Final sanding and painting were to be completed by others per the homeowner’s plan.
Results:
The basement now has:
- A fully sealed and reinforced slab-to-wall joint
- Stopped water intrusion
- A restored and clean wall surface
- Improved durability and long-term moisture protection
The homeowner can now use the basement space with confidence, knowing the water issue has been addressed from the inside out.
