Problem:
A residential property in Flushing, NY was experiencing persistent water buildup around the foundation during heavy rainfall. Roof runoff from the downspouts was discharging directly next to the home, causing soil saturation, pooling water, and increased pressure against the foundation walls. Over time, this created a risk for basement leaks, foundation deterioration, and landscape damage.
The homeowner reached out to Zavza Seal looking for a permanent drainage solution that would safely manage stormwater and redirect roof runoff away from the structure.
Solution:
Zavza Seal designed and installed a dedicated dry well drainage system to capture, disperse, and manage stormwater below grade. This system allows excess water to slowly infiltrate the surrounding soil, reducing hydrostatic pressure and protecting the foundation.
Scope of Work:
- Excavated the area deep and wide enough to properly install a catch basin and dry wells
- Installed a catch basin with a surface grate positioned just below the downspout to capture roof runoff at the source
- Installed two 50 gallon dry wells side by side on top of a 4 inch bed of compacted gravel for proper drainage and stability
- Interconnected the catch basin and both dry wells underground to ensure efficient water flow and distribution
- Backfilled the excavation area to complete the installation
- Removed all excess excavated soil from the jobsite, leaving the property clean and restored
Results:
After installation, stormwater from the roof is now safely collected and dispersed underground rather than pooling near the foundation. The dry well system significantly reduced surface water accumulation and helped protect the home from future water intrusion. The homeowner immediately noticed improved drainage during rainstorms and greater confidence in the long term performance of their property’s water management system.
This Flushing, NY project demonstrates Zavza Seal’s expertise in dry well installation, foundation drainage solutions, and stormwater management for residential properties.
Why This Matters?
Proper dry well systems play a critical role in preventing foundation water damage by controlling roof runoff and groundwater saturation. When designed and installed correctly, they extend the life of foundations, protect basements, and improve overall site drainage.
