Zavza Seal recently completed a full basement waterproofing project in Wantagh. The homeowner called us after noticing water coming into the basement during heavy rain. The issue was getting worse, and they wanted a permanent solution.

This project shows how proper testing, preparation, and high strength materials can stop foundation leaks without digging up the outside of the home.

The Problem:

The homeowner saw damp Sheetrock and water stains along one section of the basement wall. During storms, water was actively entering the space.

We performed a controlled water test. After testing, we observed water penetration from above the cold joints. The water was traveling through weak sections of the concrete foundation.

Cold joints are common weak points in poured concrete walls. Over time, pressure from soil and water can push moisture through these areas. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, foundation cracks and weak joints are some of the most common ways water enters a basement. The Environmental Protection Agency also explains that moisture problems in basements can quickly lead to mold growth and poor indoor air quality.

The homeowner needed a long term waterproofing system, not a temporary patch.

The Solution:

Step 1: Remove Damaged Materials

We removed the Sheetrock in the affected area down to grade level and slightly beyond where necessary. This allowed us to fully expose the foundation wall.

Once the wall was exposed, we performed another water test. This helped us identify all active water intrusion points before starting repairs.

Step 2: Surface Preparation

Proper preparation is key to long lasting waterproofing.

We used diamond blades to grind the wall surface. We removed paint, mildew, efflorescence, and any loose material. This step ensures strong bonding between the concrete and the waterproofing products.

Step 3: Structural Repairs

After preparing the surface, we applied hydraulic cement and 5,500 PSI high strength grout where needed. This sealed visible gaps and reinforced weak areas in the foundation.

Step 4: Intercept Concrete Densifier Application

Next, we applied Intercept across the entire subject area as the first layer of waterproofing.

Intercept is a deeply penetrating concrete densifier. It moves into the concrete on a molecular level and fills internal voids. It bonds with free calcium and lime inside the concrete and transforms into a dense waterproof barrier made of colloidal silica gel.

Once cured, the treated concrete gains enhanced density while maintaining its original strength and durability.

We allowed the Intercept to cure for at least one full day before applying additional layers.

Step 5: 7,000 PSI Waterproofing Cement System

After curing, we applied one coat of 7,000 PSI waterproofing cement over the Intercept layer.

We then installed 4.5 oz mesh reinforced fibermesh for added structural strength.

Finally, we applied a second coat of 7,000 PSI waterproofing cement to complete the system. This multi layer approach significantly enhances strength, structural integrity, and durability. Because of this system, we are able to offer a 30 year warranty.

One major benefit of this system is that it allows us to waterproof the foundation wall from the interior. This is much more economical than excavating the exterior foundation.

Step 6: Curing and Final Water Test

We allowed the waterproofing system to cure for two full days.

After curing, we performed an extensive water test to confirm the wall was fully sealed. The foundation no longer allowed water penetration.

Once testing was complete, we installed new Sheetrock, taped and compounded the area, and restored the basement to a clean finished condition.

The Result:

The basement in Wantagh is now fully sealed and protected. The homeowner no longer has to worry about water intrusion during heavy rain. The foundation wall is stronger, denser, and protected by a multi layer waterproofing system backed by a 30 year warranty.
