Case Study: Complete Home Insulation Upgrade in Brooklyn, NY

Project Overview

Zavza Seal recently completed a full home insulation project in Brooklyn, NY. The work covered the exterior walls, basement walls, second floor ceiling, and sealing of windows and doors.

This project focused on improving energy efficiency, reducing outside noise, and making the home more comfortable year-round.

The Problem

The homeowner was facing multiple issues throughout the house.

The rooms felt too cold in winter and too hot in summer. Energy bills were higher than expected. There was also noticeable outside noise coming into the home, especially through the walls and windows.

The basement felt damp at times, and the overall insulation in the home was outdated and not performing well.

In simple terms, the home was losing energy from multiple areas.

Our Solution

Our team at Zavza Seal created a complete insulation plan to fix these issues from top to bottom.

Exterior Walls Insulation

We worked on the first floor and second floor exterior walls, covering about 1,045 sq. ft. on each level.

We carefully cut small access ports to reach inside the wall cavities. Using our professional equipment, we installed dense packed cellulose insulation to achieve an R value of 21.

This helps slow down heat transfer and keeps indoor temperatures stable.

Once the insulation was installed, we patched and sealed all access points neatly.

Basement Walls Insulation

The basement walls, about 880 sq. ft., were also insulated using the same dense packed cellulose method.

This helped reduce moisture issues and made the basement more comfortable and usable.

Second Floor Ceiling Insulation

We insulated the second floor ceiling, covering around 624 sq. ft.

Dense packed cellulose insulation was installed to achieve an R value of 38. This is especially important because heat rises, and a poorly insulated ceiling can lead to major energy loss.

Again, all access areas were properly patched after installation.

Windows and Doors Sealing

We sealed 14 windows and 2 exterior doors.

This step is very important but often overlooked. Even small gaps can let air leak in and out, making insulation less effective.

By sealing these openings, we helped lock in the comfort and improve overall efficiency.

The Results

After the project was completed, the homeowner noticed clear improvements.

The home now maintains a more consistent temperature. Heating and cooling systems do not have to work as hard. This leads to lower energy bills.

Outside noise is reduced, making the home quieter and more peaceful.

The basement feels drier and more comfortable. Overall, the home feels more solid, efficient, and comfortable.

Materials Used

We used environmentally friendly dense packed cellulose insulation.

This material is:

  • Fire resistant with a Class 1 fire rating
  • Designed to reduce noise
  • Resistant to moisture
  • Safe for indoor air quality
  • Gold Certified for healthier living spaces

Important Notes

Sanding and painting were not included in this project.

All insulation work was completed with careful attention to detail, and all access points were sealed properly after installation.

Why This Project Matters

This Brooklyn home is a great example of how proper insulation can completely change the way a house feels and performs.

Instead of fixing one small issue, we improved the entire building envelope. This leads to long-term energy savings, better comfort, and a healthier indoor environment.

If your home feels uncomfortable or your energy bills are too high, proper insulation could be the solution.
