Problem
A homeowner in Queens wanted to improve the comfort and energy efficiency of their home. The basement areas were losing heat during the winter and allowing excess humidity and outside noise to enter the living space. The stairwell wall and crawl space ceiling also lacked proper insulation, making the home less energy efficient and less comfortable throughout the year.
The exposed foundation wall near the driveway window created another weak point where outside temperatures could affect the indoor environment. The homeowner contacted Zavza Seal to install high performance insulation throughout the affected areas.
Solution
Our Zavza Seal team completed a full basement and crawl space insulation upgrade designed to improve thermal performance, reduce noise, and help create a healthier indoor environment.
Basement Ceiling and Stairwell Insulation
We began by cutting access ports throughout the basement drywall ceiling and stairwell wall areas. These openings allowed our team to safely install dense packed cellulose insulation inside the enclosed cavities.
The project included approximately:
- 580 square feet of basement ceiling insulation
- 144 square feet of stairwell wall insulation
We installed dense packed cellulose insulation with:
- R-38 insulation value in the basement ceiling
- R-19 insulation value in the stairwell wall
After the insulation process was completed, our team patched and taped all access openings to restore the finished surfaces.
Crawl Space Ceiling Insulation
In the crawl space ceiling area, we installed R-38 batt insulation across approximately 60 square feet. This helped improve heat retention and reduce cold floor temperatures above the crawl space.
Foundation Wall Foam Board Installation
To complete the project, we installed 2-inch rigid foam board insulation on approximately 40 square feet of exposed interior foundation wall near the driveway window area. The foam board was securely adhered to the wall surface to improve thermal protection and reduce heat transfer.
Result
The homeowner now has a more energy efficient and comfortable home with improved insulation throughout the basement, stairwell, and crawl space areas.
The upgraded insulation system helps:
- Reduce heat loss during colder months
- Improve indoor comfort year round
- Lower energy consumption
- Reduce outside noise
- Improve moisture resistance
- Create a healthier indoor environment
The environmentally friendly insulation products used during the project are fire resistant, meet Class 1 fire rating standards, and provide strong sound absorbency benefits.
Why Proper Basement Insulation Matters
Basements, crawl spaces, and stairwell walls are common areas for energy loss in many homes. Proper insulation can help maintain indoor temperatures, reduce moisture issues, and improve overall home efficiency.
Zavza Seal provides professional insulation, waterproofing, crawl space repair, and energy efficiency solutions throughout New York.
