Zavza Seal recently completed a structural wall modification and window installation project in Brooklyn, NY. The homeowner wanted to create a larger wall opening by combining two existing window areas while maintaining the structural stability of the home.
The Problem
The back wall of the house contained multiple window openings that did not provide the layout and appearance the homeowner wanted. Creating a larger opening required cutting through a load-bearing wall section, which presented a structural challenge.
Removing part of a structural wall without proper support can lead to wall movement, cracking, and other serious issues. The project needed to be completed carefully to protect the home’s structural integrity.
Our Solution
Our team began by installing temporary shoring to safely support the structure during construction.
Once the wall was properly supported, we carefully cut approximately 96 inches across the existing window areas. This allowed us to prepare the wall for a larger and more functional opening.
After the wall modifications were completed, we installed a permanent structural header designed to carry the load previously supported by the wall section being removed. The temporary shoring was then safely removed.
Next, we reframed the lower portion of the larger window so it aligned with the smaller window. This created a new wall opening measuring approximately 96 inches wide by 53 inches high.
The homeowner selected their preferred replacement window, and our team completed the installation to finish the project.

The completed project transformed the appearance of the rear wall while maintaining structural safety. The new larger window opening allows for improved natural light, a cleaner appearance, and better functionality for the homeowner.
