Basement Water Intrusion Repair in Halesite, NY
Water entering through a cinder block foundation can quickly turn a dry basement into a damp and unhealthy space. Our team at Zavza Seal recently helped a homeowner in Halesite, NY stop ongoing basement leaks with a complete interior waterproofing solution.
The Problem
The homeowner noticed water entering the basement along two exterior cinder block foundation walls measuring approximately 12 and 14 linear feet. During heavy rain, moisture collected where the foundation wall met the floor. Over time, this created damp conditions and raised concerns about mold, damage to stored belongings, and future structural issues.
The home already had a sump pump, but before beginning the project, our senior estimator carefully inspected the existing system. We evaluated whether it was operating correctly and confirmed how it would work with the new drainage system. This step helped us determine the best approach without replacing equipment that was still performing properly.
Our Solution
After the inspection, our team installed a complete interior drainage system designed to collect and redirect water before it could enter the living space.
First, we cut a drainage trench approximately four inches deep along the wall and directly above the foundation footing. A perforated drain pipe was then installed inside the trench and completely surrounded with clean gravel to improve water collection and flow.
The drainage system was connected to the existing sump pump basin. If deeper existing drain lines had created installation challenges, we were prepared to install new connections at a higher entry point to maintain reliable drainage.
To relieve water pressure inside the cinder block foundation, we drilled weep holes into each underground block using diamond drill bits. This allows trapped water inside the hollow blocks to drain safely into the new perforated pipe instead of forcing its way through the wall.
Finally, we restored the floor by covering the trench with high strength 4,000 PSI concrete. The new concrete was troweled smooth so it blended seamlessly with the surrounding basement floor.
The Result
The homeowner now has a dependable waterproofing system that captures groundwater before it reaches the basement floor. The new drainage system works together with the sump pump to move water safely away from the foundation, reducing the risk of future flooding, moisture damage, and mold growth.
The finished floor looks clean and professional while providing long term protection for the home’s foundation.
