Older homes in Queens often struggle with poor insulation, uneven indoor temperatures, drafts, and rising heating and cooling costs. Many of these issues are caused by insufficient insulation hidden inside walls, ceilings, and crawl spaces.

That was the situation for this Queens homeowner before contacting Zavza Seal. The home was losing energy across multiple floors, especially through exterior walls and upper-level crawl spaces. The homeowner wanted a long-term insulation solution that would improve comfort, reduce energy waste, and help create a quieter indoor environment.

After a full inspection, our team designed a multi-area insulation upgrade covering the first floor, second floor, third floor, dormer ceilings, crawl spaces, and basement access areas.

The Problem

The home had several areas where insulation performance was weak or missing altogether.

The homeowner reported:

  • Drafts near exterior walls
  • Uneven room temperatures
  • High heating and cooling costs
  • Noise transfer from outside
  • Cold upper-floor rooms during winter

Our inspection confirmed that many wall cavities lacked proper insulation, allowing heat loss throughout the property. The upper-floor dormer areas and crawl spaces were also contributing to energy inefficiency.

Because the home had multiple finished walls, careful planning was needed to improve insulation while minimizing disruption inside the property.

Our Solution

First Floor Exterior Wall & Stairwell Insulation

Our team insulated approximately 992 square feet of first-floor exterior and stairwell wall areas.

To access the wall cavities, we carefully drilled small openings in the interior drywall so our insulation equipment could reach inside the wall stud spaces. We then installed environmentally friendly blown-in cellulose insulation designed to improve thermal performance and reduce air movement within the walls.

The new insulation system provided an approximate R-value of 16.

After installation, all wall openings were patched and taped to restore the interior surfaces.

Second Floor Exterior Wall Insulation

On the second floor, we insulated approximately 736 square feet of exterior wall areas using the same dense-pack cellulose insulation method.

This process helped strengthen the thermal barrier around the upper level of the home while also improving sound absorption between the indoors and outside environment.

The insulation material used in this project is fire-resistant, moisture-resistant, and Gold Certified for healthier indoor air quality.

Third Floor End Walls & Dormer Ceiling Insulation

The third floor had major heat loss around the dormer ceiling and end wall sections.

For the dormer ceiling area, our team installed batt insulation to provide an approximate R-value of 30. We also insulated approximately 126 square feet of third-floor end walls using blown-in cellulose insulation.

This combination helped improve comfort in the upper living spaces while reducing temperature fluctuations throughout the home.

Third Floor Crawl Space Insulation

The front and rear crawl space ceiling areas on the third floor were insulated with batt insulation rated at R-30.

These crawl space areas are commonly overlooked in older Queens homes, but they can contribute heavily to winter heat loss if left uninsulated.

Adding insulation here helped improve overall energy efficiency and indoor comfort.

Basement Crawl Space Access & Insulation

To access the crawl spaces beneath the front sunroom and rear kitchen floors, portions of drywall in the basement were carefully opened.

Once access was created, our team insulated the crawl space areas using batt insulation with an R-value of 30. After the installation was complete, the drywall was replaced to restore the finished basement areas.

This step helped reduce cold floor problems and improved insulation performance underneath key living spaces.

The Final Result

After the project was completed, the homeowner noticed immediate improvements in indoor comfort throughout all levels of the home.

The upgraded insulation system helped:

  • Reduce drafts and heat loss
  • Improve temperature consistency
  • Lower energy waste
  • Reduce outside noise
  • Improve year-round indoor comfort

By insulating multiple levels of the property, Zavza Seal helped create a more energy-efficient and comfortable living environment for the homeowner.
