The Problem:
A homeowner in Brooklyn, NY wanted to improve the insulation in the home’s exterior walls.
The project covered the front walls on the second and third floors, along with the front and back walls on the first floor. The total area was approximately 704 square feet.
The homeowner also wanted better indoor comfort and less outside noise.
Since the walls were already finish ed, the work needed to be done without removing large sections of the walls.
The Solution:
Zavza Seal used dense-pack cellulose insulation to fill the wall cavities from inside the home.
Our team made small access openings high on the walls and filled the spaces between the 2×6 wall studs. We also insulated the areas above and below windows and doors.
The insulation was installed to reach a target R-value of 19.25.
Before starting, we protected the floors in heavy work areas and used dust curtains where needed.
Once the insulation was installed, we patched, taped, and applied compound to the access openings.
The Result:
The homeowner received new insulation across approximately 704 square feet of exterior wall space on all three floors.
The work was designed to help:
- Improve energy efficiency
- Reduce heat transfer
- Make indoor temperatures more comfortable
- Reduce outside noise
- Improve sound absorption
- Provide fire-resistant insulation
Dense-pack cellulose was a practical choice because it allowed Zavza Seal to fill the existing wall cavities without opening up large areas of the finished walls.
