The Problem:
A homeowner in East Northport, NY was experiencing water intrusion through the basement foundation wall in the laundry room and boiler room.
The affected area covered approximately 20 linear feet, running from the west corner of the laundry room to about one foot from the oil tank in the boiler room.
The section directly behind the oil tank was not included because the homeowner had not observed any water intrusion in that area.
To properly access the foundation wall, part of the finished laundry room wall needed to be opened.
The Solution:
Zavza Seal used a multi-step waterproofing system to address the water intrusion at the foundation wall.
Preparing the Foundation Wall
In the laundry room, our team removed the sheetrock, framing studs, and lower framing plate up to approximately 4 feet above the basement floor.
This exposed the concrete foundation wall so it could be properly inspected and prepared.
We then ground the affected wall area, including the wall-to-floor joint and other areas where preparation was needed.
Applying Intercept
After preparing the concrete, we applied Intercept to the exposed foundation wall.
Intercept was used as the first layer of the waterproofing system to penetrate the concrete and seal voids within the concrete surface.
The material was allowed to cure for at least 72 hours before the next stage of the repair.
Basecrete Waterproofing
Once the first waterproofing layer had cured, our team applied Basecrete waterproofing cement across the affected area.
Where needed, we embedded 4.5 oz reinforced fiberglass mesh into the Basecrete layer to reinforce the waterproofing system.
A second coat of Basecrete was then applied to complete the treatment.
The waterproofed area was monitored during heavy rainfall to check for continued water penetration.
Restoring the Laundry Room
After the waterproofing work was completed, new framing studs were installed where required.
New drywall was then installed, taped, and compounded.
The homeowner was responsible for the final sanding and painting.
The Result:
The approximately 20-linear-foot section of the basement foundation wall received a complete waterproofing treatment.
By opening the finished wall, preparing the concrete, treating the foundation with Intercept, and applying reinforced Basecrete waterproofing, Zavza Seal addressed the affected foundation wall from the interior.
The laundry room wall was then rebuilt so the area could be returned to use.
A Multi-Step Basement Waterproofing Solution
Basement water intrusion can occur through foundation walls, wall-to-floor joints, and small voids in concrete.
For this East Northport project, Zavza Seal used multiple waterproofing layers rather than relying on a single surface coating. The foundation was prepared first, followed by penetrating concrete treatment and reinforced cementitious waterproofing.
This approach helped address the affected section while allowing the finished basement wall to be restored after the waterproofing work.
Zavza Seal provides basement waterproofing, foundation crack repair, foundation waterproofing, and concrete repair throughout East Northport, Long Island, and surrounding areas.
