Case Study: Main Beam Support Repair in Bohemia, NY
Main house beam support repair with new steel and concrete columns in Bohemia NY

The Problem:

A home in Bohemia, NY had structural concerns with the support system for the main house beam. The existing beam was supported by four columns that needed to be removed and replaced.

Because the beam supports part of the structure above it, the work needed to be completed carefully. The existing supports could not simply be removed without providing temporary support first.

The goal was to strengthen the existing beam and install new permanent columns to provide a more reliable support system.

The Solution:

Zavza Seal first provided temporary support for the structure while the existing four columns were removed. This allowed the work to be completed while keeping the beam properly supported.

Our team then used a phased jacking process to raise the center of the existing beam approximately 1 inch. This helped restore the beam’s support and provided the necessary space to install the new columns.

Four custom-size steel and concrete columns were installed on the existing concrete slab footings. The new columns were designed as fixed supports and could not be adjusted after installation for safety reasons. Each column was specified to support more than 18,000 pounds.

The existing wood beam was also strengthened with heavy-duty steel plates. The plates were installed alongside the existing beam and secured with high-strength galvanized bolts.

Steel post plates and post bases were then installed to complete the new support system.

The Result:

The existing four columns were replaced with new permanent steel and concrete supports. The main beam was also reinforced with heavy-duty steel plates and high-strength bolts.

The completed work provided a stronger support system for the main house beam while addressing the structural concerns identified at the property.
