Case Study: Foundation Wall Joint Waterproofing in Brooklyn, NY
Foundation wall joint waterproofing and pressure relief system installation in Brooklyn NY

Project Overview:

Zavza Seal worked on a foundation waterproofing project in Brooklyn, NY, involving two sections of the foundation walls. The work covered approximately 16 linear feet along the west wall and 11 linear feet along the south wall.

The goal was to help control water intrusion through the foundation wall areas and create a more reliable waterproofing system.

The Problem:

The joints along the foundation walls were areas of concern for water intrusion. Some of the work had already been started by the property owner, so the remaining work needed to address the affected sections and complete the waterproofing process.

The project called for a pressure relief system that could help manage water pressure near the foundation footing without requiring a sump pump.

The Solution:

Zavza Seal proposed excavating along the affected foundation walls down to the bottom of the footing. The team would grind sections of the wall where needed to prepare the surfaces for treatment.

A self-sustaining pressure relief system would then be installed along the footing. This system was designed to help relieve water pressure without the need for a sump pump.

After installation, the excavated areas would be backfilled and covered with 4 inches of high-strength, 4,000 PSI concrete.

The waterproofing process would include an initial coat of waterproofing cement, followed by reinforced 4.5-ounce Basecrete fiberglass mesh and another layer of waterproofing cement. These layers were intended to create a reinforced barrier along the treated foundation wall sections.

The Expected Result

The planned work was intended to help control water intrusion at the affected foundation wall joints and reduce water pressure near the footing. The pressure relief system and reinforced waterproofing layers were designed to provide added protection to the treated areas.

Zavza Seal also recommended keeping the walls open through several heavy rain events after the waterproofing work so the treated areas could be monitored before rebuilding the finished walls.
