Case Study: Basement Ceiling Cellulose Insulation in Commack, NY

Problem:

A homeowner in Commack NY reached out to Zavza Seal with a common but frustrating issue. Their basement apartment ceiling lacked proper insulation, which led to poor temperature control and noticeable noise transfer between floors. The cold drafts made the living space uncomfortable during winter, and sound from upstairs carried easily into the basement.

The homeowner wanted an energy efficient and long lasting solution that would not require major demolition or disruption to their daily routine.

Solution:

Our team inspected the basement ceiling, which measured approximately 461 square feet. Based on the structure and the homeowner’s goals, we recommended installing dense pack cellulose insulation through access holes made between ceiling studs.

Here is how we solved the problem:

  1. Created small access holes between the ceiling studs to reach all cavities without removing the ceiling.
  2. Blow-in installation of dense pack cellulose insulation to achieve R-15, improving both thermal performance and sound control.
  3. Used eco friendly, Gold Certified insulation that is fire resistant, moisture resistant, and offers excellent sound absorbency.
  4. Patched, taped, and compounded all access ports after installation.
  5. Returned once the compound dried to sand and paint the area using the homeowner’s supplied paint for a clean and seamless finish.

The homeowner now enjoys a more comfortable basement, reduced noise from upstairs, and better energy efficiency for the entire home.
