Case Study: Basement Water Damage Restoration in Valley Stream, NY
Basement water damage restoration with repaired foundation walls and new interior finishes in Valley Stream NY

Project Overview:

Zavza Seal worked on a basement restoration project in Valley Stream, NY, to address water-damaged walls, insulation, and flooring. The work included replacing damaged materials, restoring interior finishes, and applying waterproofing cement along the foundation wall and floor joint.

The Problem:

Water damage affected the finished basement, including the lower sections of the drywall and insulation. The existing R-11 fiberglass insulation needed replacement, and the damaged wall areas required repairs.

The basement also needed new flooring, updated doors and electrical outlets, and repairs to the boiler room. The foundation wall and floor joint required waterproofing to help reduce the risk of future water intrusion.

The Solution:

Zavza Seal proposed removing the damaged drywall around the basement perimeter up to 48 inches above the floor. The exposed areas would be cleaned with a mold-killing solution before new 5/8-inch drywall was installed, taped, compounded, and sanded in preparation for painting.

The damaged R-11 insulation would be replaced with new R-13 fiberglass batt insulation. The walls would then be painted from floor to ceiling, with new baseboards and corner trim installed to restore the finished appearance.

The project also included replacing nine electrical wall outlets, one hollow-core interior door, and one exterior door. The staircase risers would be cleaned and painted.

For the basement floor, the existing vinyl tiles and underlayment would be removed and replaced with new vinyl tile flooring over waterproof underlayment. The boiler room would also receive drywall repairs, along with floor and wall cleaning and painting.

To address the foundation joint, Zavza Seal proposed applying Basecrete waterproofing cement around the perimeter where the foundation walls meet the basement floor.

The Result:

The planned work was designed to restore the basement’s damaged interior finishes while addressing the foundation wall and floor joint where water could enter. Replacing the affected drywall, insulation, and flooring would help bring the basement back to a cleaner, more usable condition.

The foundation joint waterproofing was intended to help limit water intrusion at this vulnerable area.
