Case Study: Basement Waterproofing & Epoxy Floor Coating in Franklin Square, NY

A Damp and Damaged Basement Wall in Franklin Square

A homeowner in Franklin Square contacted the team at Zavza Seal after noticing ongoing moisture problems in their basement. The foundation walls had visible cracks, areas of loose material, and signs of water intrusion around an old infilled window opening. Parts of the wall surface were also spalling and uneven due to years of moisture exposure.

The basement floor had become stained and worn over time. Small cracks had started to appear in the concrete, making the space look neglected and harder to maintain. The homeowner wanted a long-term waterproofing solution that would protect the basement while also improving the overall appearance of the space.

Our Basement Waterproofing Solution:

After inspecting the basement, our team created a full waterproofing and restoration plan focused on both protection and durability.

We began by lightly scarifying and wire brushing approximately 340 square feet of basement foundation wall surface. This process removed loose and defective material and prepared the walls for proper adhesion. Any visible cracks were repaired to help prevent future water penetration.

Next, we repaired and parged all spalled areas so the wall surface would become smooth and level again. One of the most important parts of the project was waterproofing the infilled basement window opening. For this, we used a mesh reinforced waterproof cement system from Basecrete to create a strong moisture barrier in a vulnerable area of the wall.

Once the surface preparation was complete, we applied two coats of waterproof paint in white across the entire wall area. This helped brighten the basement while adding another layer of moisture resistance.

For the concrete floor, our crew cleaned and acid washed the surface to remove dirt, residue, and contaminants. We then patched floor cracks before applying a durable epoxy floor coating throughout the basement in the homeowner’s selected color. The finished floor created a clean, modern look while making the basement easier to maintain and more resistant to moisture damage.

The Final Result:

By the end of the project, the basement was transformed into a cleaner, brighter, and far more protected space. The repaired walls and waterproof coatings helped address moisture concerns, while the epoxy floor coating gave the basement a polished and durable finish.

The homeowner now has a basement that is easier to maintain, better protected against future water intrusion, and more comfortable to use year-round.

Why Basement Waterproofing Matters?

Basement moisture problems can lead to peeling paint, foundation deterioration, mold growth, and unhealthy indoor air conditions if left untreated. Proper waterproofing and crack repair help protect both the structure of the home and the long-term value of the property.

If your basement has cracks, moisture issues, or damaged concrete surfaces, Zavza Seal provides professional basement waterproofing, crack repair, and epoxy floor coating services throughout New York.
