A homeowner in Farmingdale, NY contacted Zavza Seal with a concern about their basement apartment ceiling. The client wanted to improve energy efficiency, reduce noise from the floors above, and create a healthier indoor environment. The basement ceiling measured approximately 461 square feet, and prior attempts at insulation had not met the client’s expectations for comfort or sound reduction.

Our Solution:
Zavza Seal proposed a targeted approach to insulation and soundproofing:
- Blow-In Cellulose Dense Pack Insulation: Access holes were created between the studs, allowing us to densely pack cellulose insulation into the ceiling. This achieved an R value of 15, boosting energy efficiency while improving sound absorption.
- Eco-Friendly Materials: The insulation used is fire resistant, Class 1 rated, environmentally friendly, and Gold Certified, contributing to a healthier indoor environment.
- Patching and Finishing: After installing the insulation, we patched, taped, and compounded all access ports. Once the compound dried, we returned to sand and paint the areas, or the entire ceiling, using paint supplied by the homeowner.
- Soundproofing Expertise: While soundproofing is part science and part art, we committed to using our best efforts to reduce vibrations and noise travel. We also provided a disclaimer that noise perception varies from person to person and full sound elimination cannot be guaranteed.
