Problem:
A Brooklyn homeowner was experiencing persistent water intrusion through compromised and damaged foundation walls. After thorough inspections by three senior estimators, it was determined that a long-term waterproofing solution was needed to stop the leaks, strengthen the structure, and protect the home for 30+ years. The existing foundation surfaces had weakened materials, remnants of liquid rubber, and structural vulnerabilities that required correction before waterproofing could be applied.
Solution:
Our team implemented a complete interior foundation waterproofing and restoration process:
- Ground and chipped all weak and damaged areas of the foundation walls to ensure a stable surface. This step was critical to prevent loose materials from falling behind the waterproofing membrane and obstructing water flow.
- Removed all liquid rubber present on the foundation walls, since it is only suitable for exterior applications.
- Applied hydraulic cement and high-strength grout where needed to prevent sand infiltration into the membrane cavities.
- Installed a Delta brand high-performance heavy-duty dimpled waterproofing membrane. The interior layer consisted of recycled HDPE, and the outer layer used virgin high-density polyethylene. The vacuum-formed dimpled pattern directed any incidental water toward the footing drain system installed in Phase I.
- Repaired damaged and leaking cast iron sewer pipes, replacing any sections that were beyond repair to restore full system integrity.
