Problem:

A homeowner in Jericho, NY was experiencing persistent water pooling in their garden. Diagnosis:

Upon inspection, Zavza Seal’s team determined that the garden lacked an adequate drainage system to handle excess water. The natural slope of the property directed runoff to a low-lying area of the garden, where water accumulated with no proper outlet. Without intervention, this pooling would continue to affect plant health, soil stability, and overall landscape usability.

Solution:

To address the drainage problem, our team proposed a Garden Drainage Improvement project consisting of a 15-foot drain tie-in system.

Scope of Work:

• Excavated a trench 16 inches wide and 16 inches deep, spanning fifteen linear feet through the water-saturated garden area.
• Installed a 4-inch perforated PVC drainage pipe wrapped in soil separator fabric for durability and performance.
• Lined the trench with compacted gravel bedding, ensuring efficient water collection and flow.
• Connected the newly installed drainage pipe to the existing drain line for seamless integration.
• Backfilled the trench with gravel and soil, then regraded the garden area to blend with the surroundings and promote proper surface runoff.

Results:

The new drainage system successfully redirected excess water away from the garden, eliminating standing water after rainfall. The regraded surface allowed proper runoff while preserving the garden’s natural look. The homeowner gained a healthier garden environment, improved soil conditions, and peace of mind knowing the drainage issue was resolved by a trusted contractor.
