1. Workspace Protection & Isolation
Before any work began, our team ensured:
- Complete floor protection using construction-grade flooring paper
- Furniture and personal item protection, carefully moved and covered by our crew
- Hermetic workspace isolation with 6mm plastic sheeting to prevent dust and debris from spreading into the rest of the house
- Final clean-up of the workspace after job completion for total peace of mind
We also advised the homeowner to remove fragile or valuable items to ensure their safety during the insulation work.
2. Laser-Guided Insulation Top Line Setup
To align with the upcoming vault ceiling renovation, we:
- Used a laser level to mark a precise horizontal reference above the West window (see Exhibit A)
- Applied a caulk guideline to designate the “Insulation Top” – a fixed boundary above which no insulation would be installed
- This allowed the homeowner to proceed confidently with future framing or ceiling conversion
3. Attic Air Sealing
Air leaks are one of the main causes of heat loss in attics. To prevent this:
- We sealed all gaps, windows, and seams with spray foam and foam strips, turning the attic into a sealed, energy-efficient environment
- This helped eliminate drafts and prepare the attic for year-round comfort
4. Installation of Rafter Baffles for Airflow
To ensure proper attic ventilation even after insulation:
- We installed foam-formed rafter baffles inside the soffit bays
- These were extruded up to 2 inches above the Insulation Top, allowing unrestricted airflow from the soffit to the ridge vent (see Exhibit B)
- This preserved the ventilation pathway, preventing moisture buildup and maintaining attic health long-term
5. Eco-Friendly Fiberglass Insulation Installation
To complete the job, we used Knauf EcoBatt fiberglass insulation — an environmentally responsible and energy-efficient choice:
- R-15 EcoBatt Kraft-faced insulation was installed between all 2×4 wall studs
- R-19 EcoBatt Kraft-faced insulation was installed between all 2×8 roof rafters
- ECOSE® technology ensures reduced formaldehyde and improved air quality for the home
