The Problem
A homeowner in Calverton, NY noticed that a concrete slab near their swimming pool had settled and become uneven.
After inspecting the area, our team found that the soil underneath the slab had shifted over time. This movement created empty spaces, or voids, beneath the concrete. Without proper support, the slab began to sink, creating a noticeable settlement problem.
An uneven pool deck can become a tripping hazard and may continue to worsen if the voids below are not properly filled.
The homeowner contacted Zavza Seal to restore the concrete slab without the cost and disruption of removing and replacing the concrete.
Our Solution
After evaluating the condition of the slab, we recommended the mud jacking concrete lifting method.
Mud jacking is a proven process that fills the empty spaces beneath a concrete slab and gently raises it back toward its original position.
To complete the repair, our team:
- Drilled small holes through the concrete slab using diamond drill bits
- Pumped a stone slurry grout mixture beneath the slab
- Filled the underground voids evenly to restore support
- Gradually lifted the settled slab using controlled pressure
- Patched all drilled holes after lifting was complete
- Repaired the structural crack found in the slab
As the stone slurry grout filled the voids, it created a solid base underneath the concrete. The pressure from the material slowly and safely raised the slab, helping restore a more level surface.
Once the lifting process was complete, we patched the drill holes and repaired the existing structural crack to improve the slab’s appearance and performance.
The Result
The concrete slab was successfully stabilized and lifted, reducing the settlement around the pool area.
By filling the voids beneath the slab, we restored support where it was missing and helped prevent further sinking. The repaired slab now provides a safer and more level walking surface for the homeowner and their family.
The homeowner avoided the expense of full concrete replacement while achieving a long-lasting solution to the settlement problem.
Why Mud Jacking Is Effective?
Mud jacking is often an excellent solution when concrete settles because of soil movement or voids beneath the slab. Instead of removing and replacing concrete, the existing slab can often be lifted and stabilized by filling the empty spaces underneath.
This method is faster, less disruptive, and more cost-effective than full slab replacement in many situations.
