The Problem:
The wall in the subject area needed additional insulation, but access was limited because a sewer line trap was located inside the wall.
The existing wall did not provide enough insulation coverage, and simply closing the wall would make future access to the plumbing difficult.
The solution needed to improve the wall’s insulation while still allowing access to the sewer line trap when needed.
The Solution:
Zavza Seal opened the wall in the required area to create access for the insulation work.
Our team installed dense-packed cellulose insulation to an R-value of 30. The insulation was packed into the wall cavity to improve thermal performance and help reduce heat loss.
Because the sewer line trap needed to remain accessible, we installed a section of containment netting to hold the insulation in place around the access area.
We then fabricated a removable access panel to provide future access to the sewer line trap without requiring the wall to be opened again.
All access holes were patched, taped, and compounded after the insulation was installed.
The Result:
The wall received additional dense-packed cellulose insulation while maintaining access to the plumbing component inside the wall.
The removable panel provides a practical way to reach the sewer line trap in the future without disturbing the finished wall.
The project improved the insulation in the affected area while keeping the installation clean, functional, and accessible.
Why Dense-Packed Cellulose Insulation?
Dense-packed cellulose can be installed inside existing wall cavities where traditional insulation installation may be difficult. It can help improve the thermal performance of walls while reducing unwanted air movement through gaps in the cavity.
For homes in Great Neck, Long Island, and surrounding areas, adding insulation to poorly insulated wall cavities can help improve indoor comfort and reduce heat transfer.
A Practical Insulation Solution in Great Neck
This Great Neck project required more than simply adding insulation. The wall also contained a plumbing access point that needed to remain serviceable.
By combining dense-packed cellulose insulation with a removable access panel, Zavza Seal was able to address both needs without permanently blocking access to the sewer line trap.
Note: Wall finishing and painting were not included in this scope of work.
