Mrs. McAuliffe reached out after noticing water pooling on her driveway following heavy rain. Prolonged standing water risked damaging her asphalt surface and could potentially seep into the foundation area. She needed a robust and permanent drainage solution.

Evaluation & Proposed Solution

Assessment (March 31, 2025): A site inspection revealed poor drainage due to inadequate runoff management. Water accumulated both on the driveway and near the garage foundation.

Proposed Solution: A comprehensive drainage overhaul:

• Install a storm channel along the driveway edge.
• Extend a PVC drain line.
• Dig and install a system of ten underground dry wells with proper bedding and backfill.
• Repair the driveway and re-seed disturbed areas.
  

Scope of Work

Storm Channel Installation & Repair

• Cut asphalt approximately 12 linear feet (LF) to accommodate storm channel placement.
• Cold-patch repair of the cut area to restore the driveway surface post-installation.
  

Drainage Line Extension

• Extend a 4″ drainage PVC pipe approximately 17 LF from the channel toward the dry well field.
  

Dry Well System Installation

• Excavated pit sized to fit 10 overflow dry wells (50-gallon each), each wrapped in soil separator.
• Gravel bedding installed at the base to align the dry wells per specifications.
• Backfilled the lower 24″ of pit with gravel and compacted.
  
• Backfilled upper portion with excavated soil, grading the area or removing excess soil per client’s needs.
• Leave approx. 10″ of topsoil above the dry wells to allow for vegetation.
• Grass seeding to restore the area fit for easy regrowth and curb appeal.
  

Note: Dry well placement strictly followed the client-provided blueprints.

Outcome

• Efficient redirection of stormwater from the driveway surface into a subsurface drainage system.
• Dry wells dispersed water underground, alleviating pooling and safeguarding nearby structures.
• The repaired and patched driveway surface restored both aesthetic and structural integrity.
