Case Study: Foundation Crack Repair and Waterproofing in Woodbury, NY
Exterior foundation crack repair and waterproofing completed at a Woodbury NY residential property.

The Problem

A homeowner in Woodbury, NY was dealing with water intrusion along the foundation walls. Our team found current or past water intrusion at one location of the foundation wall.

The lower sections of two exterior foundation walls also needed waterproofing. One wall was approximately 39 feet long, while the second wall was approximately 10 feet long.

The existing foundation surfaces had damaged material and old tar that needed to be removed before the repair could begin. The foundation crack also needed to be sealed to help stop water from entering through the concrete.

Because the area included a French drain, our team also had to protect the drain openings during the work. Keeping the drain clear was important so it could continue to handle incidental water.

The Solution

Zavza Seal repaired the foundation crack and waterproofed the lower sections of the exterior foundation walls.

Foundation Crack Repair

Before starting, we covered the French drain openings with blue tape. This prevented debris and repair materials from falling into the drain.

We then prepared the damaged foundation surface by scarifying, abrading and grinding away the old tar and damaged material. This exposed the bare concrete and gave us a clean surface for the repair.

Next, we used diamond bits to drill access ports along the foundation crack. These ports allowed our team to inject repair materials into the crack.

We injected a combination of epoxy and urethane through the access ports. The epoxy helped strengthen the repaired area, while the urethane helped seal the crack against water intrusion.

To complete the repair, we installed 4.5-ounce reinforced fiber mesh between two layers of 6,000 PSI waterproofing cement.

After completing the repair, we vacuumed the area and removed the tape from the French drain opening.

Waterproofing the Foundation Walls

The lower 2 feet of two exterior foundation walls also received waterproofing.

The first wall was approximately 39 linear feet, and the second wall was approximately 10 linear feet.

We first protected the French drain openings with tape. We then prepared the foundation by scarifying, abrading and grinding the surface with diamond blades until the bare concrete was exposed.

Once the walls were properly prepared, we applied two layers of 6,000 PSI waterproofing cement.

We also removed sections of spray foam that were blocking the French drain openings. This allowed incidental water to flow into the French drain as intended.

Finally, we cleaned the work area, removed all debris and left the area broom clean.

The Result

The Woodbury homeowner received a targeted foundation crack repair and waterproofing system.

The foundation crack was sealed with epoxy and urethane and reinforced with fiber mesh and waterproofing cement. The lower sections of both foundation walls were also waterproofed to provide additional protection against water intrusion.

The French drain openings were kept clear so the drainage system could continue to do its job.

Proper foundation preparation was an important part of this project. By removing damaged materials and exposing the bare concrete before applying the waterproofing system, our team was able to create a clean surface for the repair.
