Project Overview:
Zavza Seal completed a foundation stabilization project in Bellmore, NY. The work involved installing helical piles to support the building, adding support beneath the basement floor, and repairing brick mortar joints around the chimney and front staircase.
The project also included replacing eroded soil around the foundation and improving the slope of the ground to help direct water away from the building.
The Problem:
The building needed additional foundation support. Previous soil erosion had also left voids in the backfill around the foundation, creating a need to restore the soil and improve drainage.
The brick mortar joints at the base of the chimney and along the front staircase also needed repair.
Our Solution:
Helical Pile Installation
Zavza Seal installed 13 helical bracket piles connected to the existing grade beam at different locations along three sides of the building. These piles were designed to provide additional support to the foundation.
The team also installed three helical piles with concrete caps in the basement floor. Three steel columns were connected to a new triple 2×8-inch girder above to provide additional structural support.
Soil Backfill and Drainage Improvements
After the pile installation, additional soil was added where needed to fill voids caused by previous erosion. The ground was also shaped to create a slope away from the foundation to help improve surface water drainage.
The amount of additional soil required depended on the condition of the existing backfill.
Brick Mortar Joint Repairs
Zavza Seal also repaired the brick mortar joints at the base of the chimney and along the front staircase where needed. These repairs addressed damaged mortar in the affected areas.
The Result:
The project provided additional foundation support through a combination of exterior helical bracket piles and interior helical piles, steel columns, and a new support girder.
Restoring the eroded backfill and shaping the ground away from the building also helped address drainage around the foundation. The brick mortar repairs completed the work on the affected exterior areas.
