Problem
A homeowner in Flushing, NY was dealing with water intrusion problems around their foundation walls. Moisture was entering through cracks and weak areas in the below grade section of the foundation, creating concerns about water damage and long term structural issues.
The exterior foundation wall had areas with cracks and openings that allowed water to penetrate the surface. Over time, this type of moisture exposure can lead to basement leaks, mold growth, weakened concrete, and damage to surrounding materials.
The homeowner wanted a complete waterproofing solution that would protect both the below grade and above grade sections of the foundation wall while helping prevent future water intrusion.
Solution
Our team at Zavza Seal developed a full exterior foundation waterproofing plan for the property.
We first excavated the area down to the bottom of the foundation footing to fully expose the affected section of the wall. This step allowed us to properly inspect and repair the entire foundation surface.
After excavation, we steel brushed and cleaned the exterior foundation wall to remove dirt, loose material, and damaged surface areas. Any visible cracks and holes were repaired using Basecrete waterproofing products to restore the surface and prepare it for sealing.
Once repairs were completed, we applied a liquid rubber waterproofing layer across the exterior foundation wall. This coating helps create a strong moisture barrier that protects the wall from water penetration.
To strengthen the connection between the foundation wall and the footing, we installed reinforced 4.5 oz fiberglass mesh and sealed the area with additional liquid rubber waterproofing. This extra reinforcement helps improve durability and reduce the risk of future leaks at the joint area.
After the waterproofing system was completed, we installed a waterproofing membrane over the treated surface for additional protection.
Finally, the stone and ceramic tile areas were carefully reinstalled to restore the appearance of the exterior space.
We also waterproofed and sealed the above grade foundation wall area to provide complete protection throughout the entire section.
Result
The homeowner now has a fully sealed and waterproofed foundation wall system designed to help keep water out and protect the property from moisture damage.
The repaired and reinforced foundation areas are now better protected against leaks, cracks, and water penetration. The finished waterproofing system also helps improve the long term durability of the foundation structure.
By addressing the issue early, the homeowner helped prevent more expensive foundation and water damage repairs in the future.
Why Exterior Foundation Waterproofing Matters
Waterproofing exterior foundation walls is one of the best ways to protect a home from basement moisture and structural deterioration. Water that enters through foundation walls can lead to mold, damaged finishes, and weakened concrete over time.
Exterior waterproofing systems help stop water before it enters the structure, creating a stronger and safer foundation for the home.
