Project Overview
This project took place in Queens, where a homeowner was dealing with constant noise coming from the upper floor. The issue affected every room in the ground floor apartment, covering about 760 square feet of ceiling space.
The goal was simple. Reduce noise, improve comfort, and make the living space more peaceful without major construction.
The Problem
The homeowner was experiencing daily noise from footsteps, movement, and general activity from the floor above. The ceilings had little to no insulation, which allowed sound to travel easily between floors.
This created discomfort, especially during early mornings and late evenings. The lack of insulation also meant the home was not as energy efficient as it could be.
The client wanted a solution that would reduce sound without requiring a full ceiling removal.
Our Solution
Our team at Zavza Seal recommended a non-invasive insulation method that would improve both sound control and energy efficiency.
We carefully drilled small access points in the ceiling so our equipment could reach the empty cavities. Through these openings, we installed dense packed cellulose insulation, making sure every section was completely filled.
This method allowed us to treat the entire ceiling area without damaging the structure. Once the insulation was installed, we sealed, patched, and finished all openings to restore the ceiling.
Why We Chose Cellulose Insulation
We used dense packed cellulose because it performs very well for sound reduction. It fills gaps tightly, which helps block airborne noise between floors.
This type of insulation is also environmentally friendly and made from recycled materials. It is treated to be fire resistant and meets Class 1 fire safety standards. It also helps manage moisture and improves indoor air quality.
For homeowners looking to understand insulation performance standards, you can refer to U.S. Department of Energy guidelines on insulation and energy efficiency, as well as safety information from Environmental Protection Agency.
The Result
After the installation, the difference was noticeable. The homeowner experienced a significant reduction in noise from the upper floor. Everyday sounds like footsteps and movement became much less disruptive.
The apartment also became more comfortable overall, with better temperature control due to the added insulation.
This project not only improved sound conditions but also increased the home’s energy efficiency and indoor comfort.
Final Thoughts
This project is a great example of how the right insulation can solve more than one problem at the same time. By using a simple and effective approach, we were able to reduce noise, improve comfort, and upgrade the home without major disruption.
