Project Overview:
Zavza Seal recently completed a structural crack repair and basement waterproofing project in Calverton, NY. The homeowner contacted us after noticing vertical cracks in the foundation wall and signs of moisture along the joint where the wall meets the slab.
This case study explains the problem and how we fixed it using proven waterproofing methods and high quality materials.
The Problem:
The homeowner had several vertical structural cracks along the foundation wall measuring about 8 linear feet total. Over time, these cracks allowed water to penetrate the basement.
There were visible signs of:
- Efflorescence on the concrete surface
- Dampness along the wall
- Moisture at the joint between the foundation wall and the concrete slab
If left untreated, these cracks could expand and cause more serious structural damage. Water intrusion can also lead to mold growth and damage to finished areas.
The homeowner needed a long lasting solution to seal the cracks, stop water penetration, and protect the foundation.
Our Solution:
Our team followed a step by step structural crack repair and waterproofing process.
1. Surface Preparation
We chased and ground the crack area using a diamond blade. This removed efflorescence, dirt, and mold so we could expose clean, original cement. Proper preparation is critical to ensure strong bonding and long term performance.
We drilled the subject areas where needed to prepare for injection.
2. Crack Injection
We injected the points of penetration with urethane and epoxy formulations.
- Urethane helps seal active water leaks.
- Epoxy restores structural integrity by bonding the concrete back together.
This process sealed the crack from within and strengthened the wall.
3. Basecrete Waterproofing System
After injection, we applied one full layer of Basecrete waterproofing cement over the repaired area.
Next, we installed reinforced 4.5 oz Basecrete brand fiberglass mesh embedded into the waterproofing cement. This adds flexibility and strength to the repair.
We then applied a second layer of Basecrete waterproofing cement to fully seal and protect the surface.
At the joint where the foundation wall meets the concrete slab, we applied a concrete adhesive along with all the waterproofing layers to ensure a tight seal at this common water entry point.

The Results:
The vertical cracks are now fully sealed and structurally reinforced. Water penetration has stopped, and the foundation wall is protected with a durable waterproofing system.
The homeowner now has a dry and secure basement and peace of mind knowing the structure is protected.
