Case Study: Sump Pump Discharge and Drainage in Valley Stream, NY
Sump pump discharge and underground drainage system in Valley Stream NY

The Problem:

A homeowner in Valley Stream, NY needed a better way to manage water discharged by the existing sump pump.

The sump pump was ejecting water through an existing pipe that came through the foundation wall. The discharge needed to be redirected away from the home and into a proper underground collection area.

Without a suitable discharge system, water from a sump pump can collect near the foundation and create drainage concerns.

The Solution:

The Zavza Seal team connected a 1 1/2-inch PVC pipe to the existing sump pump ejector pipe outlet.

We ran the new pipe alongside the foundation wall toward the front of the house. From there, the pipe was installed below grade and extended into the lawn area.

A subgrade collector basin was installed in the middle of the grass area to receive the discharged water. The basin was fitted with a pop-up top to help protect the system from backflow while keeping the discharge area contained below the lawn surface.

The new drainage setup gave the existing sump pump a dedicated path to move water away from the foundation.

New York’s residential code includes requirements for sump pumps and their discharge piping, including appropriate pipe materials and discharge arrangements.

The Result:

Zavza Seal redirected the existing sump pump discharge away from the foundation and into a new underground collector basin.

The buried PVC piping keeps the discharge line out of the way, while the collector basin provides a designated area for the water. The pop-up top also helps protect the system from backflow.

The finished system provides the homeowner with a cleaner and more practical way to manage sump pump discharge around the property.

If you need help with sump pump discharge, basement drainage, or water management in Valley Stream, NY, Zavza Seal can inspect your property and recommend a drainage solution based on the existing conditions.
