Case Study: Foundation Wall Base Waterproofing in Melville, NY

Town/Neighborhood: Brooklyn
Borough/County: Kings County
Construction Type: Residential
Category: Foundation Repair, Slab Waterproofing

Problem:
The homeowner in Brooklyn was facing ongoing water infiltration and structural vulnerability in the interior hatchet slab of the basement. The original slab was not properly sloped, and its joint with the foundation wall lacked sealing and waterproofing, leading to pooling water and damp conditions. The dimpled membrane system in place was insufficient due to improper integration and ineffective drainage paths. The client needed a long-term waterproofing and surface treatment solution to redirect water flow and protect the foundation.

Solution:
Work Area: Interior Hatchet Concrete Slab (approx. 20 linear feet)
Our team began by cutting the concrete slab using diamond blades to ensure a precise and flush alignment with the foundation wall surface. This approach allowed for improved bonding and sealing at the foundation interface.

We then used diamond grinders to smooth and level the surface of the slab, preparing it for advanced treatment. Once the surface was adequately ground, we applied high-strength waterproofing grout, carefully sloped toward the direction of the existing drainage system and dimpled membrane to promote proper water flow.

To reinforce the waterproofing system, we installed an additional section of dimpled membrane behind the existing one. This added layer serves as a secondary catchment area to redirect any incidental or unexpected water away from the slab and into the drainage path. The integration of these materials ensures redundancy and long-term protection against moisture intrusion.

Our solution not only addressed the immediate water management issue but also added structural reliability to the interior slab, reducing future risks associated with water damage or foundational erosion.
